WELCOME TO THE ARCTIC TEAM CHALLENGE 2003

Ammassalik Island , in the very heart of East Greenland's magnificent nature, is the setting in which the 3rd annual adventure race, The Arctic Team Challenge is taking place, from July 18th - 28th 2003.
During five race days the teams will cover a distance of about 250 km in the exceptional beauty of the Ammassalik district. Application forms will be accepted from November 15th 2002.

The landscape - a mosaic of steep, dramatic mountains, countless lakes, streams and rivers, waterfalls, glaciers and green valleys - radiates a purity, which has overwhelmed and fascinated visitors through all times.

A history of Endeavour
Ammassalik slots pa natet belongs to one of the most isolated habitations in the world. To the west lies the ice cap, to the east the solid field ice from the Polar Sea, which obstructs navigation for about seven months of the year. Nature has, due to its total dominance, had a decisive influence on the East Greenland population and its culture, which in many ways differs from the rest of Greenland.
The subtitle of the Arctic Team Challenge is "The ultimate test of Human endurance and Survival skills" but is was for centuries the headline describing the life of the Eastgreenlandic population. In few places, if any, has mankind endured more hardship, a more hostile environment and a fiercer competition from nature, simply to survive.

Even though society of today takes advantage of modern amenities - nature still determines living conditions. The knowledge of and the proper use of old hunting methods are still the foundation of the survival of many families. Their game will be seal, kostenlose automatenspiele minke whale, narwhal and occasionally polar bear. Along with hunting there is considerable fishing, and once a year, in springtime, huge amounts of capelin, a salmon-type fish, called 'ammassat' in Greenlandic, come close to the coast to spawn and are easily caught. The district owes its name to the Ammassat.

The Idea
The main idea of the Arctic Team Challenge is through a spectacular and very demanding annual adventure race to put focus on the beauty of the area and its inherent possibilities, and to create small but bright shining possibilities.

The Competitors
In principle, Casino en Linea the event is open to everyone. But the race is mainly designed for professional and fit amateur athletes. Arctic Team Challenge is, obviously, a team race, which means that the team has only succeeded with its members over the finish line in full complement. There are no requirements as to the composition of the teams; however, each team comprises 4 members.

Entrance fee
DKr. 42.000,00 includes flight from Iceland to Kulusuk Airport. Transportation by boat to Ammassalik Island, accommodation and catering (breakfast and evening buffet) during the race days. Return to Iceland.
